A website that earns its keep
A website has a job to do. It should help people find you, show them you're the right choice and make it easy to get in touch. I build sites that do that, then look after them so you can get on with running the business.
Just need to be found? Start with one page.
Not every business needs a big website. If you want people to be able to look you up, see you're real and get in touch, one good page will do it.
- Designed from scratch for your business
- One page that says what you do, where you are and when you're open
- Your photos, a map and an easy way to get in touch
- Your own web address
- Hosting, and me keeping an eye on it
- Up to two small changes a month
£99 to set up, then £29 a month
No VAT to add. Live within a week of you sending me your words and photos. After 12 months, the site is yours to keep.
Ask about a one-page siteWhat's included
One page or thirty, every site gets the same care, and all of this comes as standard.
- A design that could only be yours
- An obvious way to call, book or enquire on every page
- Works on phones, tablets and laptops
- Set up so Google can find you, including for local searches
- Hosting that's fast and secure
- A contact form that lands in your inbox
- Changes made for you whenever you ask
- Me, from the first chat onwards
Why not just use Wix or Squarespace?
You can, and plenty of people do. If you enjoy tinkering and have the evenings free, a website builder is a perfectly good choice. If you'd rather keep your evenings, here is what changes when I do it.
| A website builder | A site from me | |
|---|---|---|
| Who builds it | You do, usually in the evenings | I do |
| The design | A template, which other businesses will be using too | Designed from scratch for your business, even if it is one page |
| Speed | Every page carries the builder's own code, whether you use those features or not | Only what your page needs. This page is under 100 KB; the typical web page is over 2 MB |
| Getting found on Google | The tools are there, but setting them up is down to you | Set up properly from day one: page titles, descriptions, your local business details and a sitemap |
| Changing something | You log in and work it out | You send me a message |
| When something goes wrong | A help centre, a chatbot and a queue | My phone number |
| What it costs | About £10 to £30 a month, plus your time | A one-page site is £99 to set up, then £29 a month. Bigger sites get a fixed price first |
Every business needs something different
Someone hunting for an emergency plumber wants a phone number, fast. Someone choosing a holiday cottage wants to look at photos for twenty minutes. So I start with your customers and work back from there. A few examples:
A café or bar
- A menu people can read on their phone
- When you're open and how to find you
- A way to book a table
A tradesperson
- The jobs you do and the areas you cover
- Photos of work you're proud of
- A button that rings your phone
A local shop
- What you sell and when you're open
- Where you are and where to park
- What's new in this week
A holiday let
- Photos that do the place justice
- What's nearby
- A clear way to check dates and book
An accountant or consultant
- What you do, without the jargon
- Who they'll be dealing with
- An easy way to book a first conversation
Something else entirely
- Salons, studios, clubs, charities, gyms
- If you've got customers, the same thinking applies
- Tell me what you do and we can go from there
How it works
We have a chat
On the phone, on a video call, or over a coffee if you're nearby. You tell me about the business and what you want the website to do for it.
I build it
You'll see it early, while there's still time to change your mind. I'd much rather hear “not like that” in the first week than the last.
It goes live
I put it live and check everything works. After that, whenever something needs changing, you just message me.
Bigger sites: two ways to pay
For anything more than one page, I'll give you a fixed price before I start. Then it's up to you how you pay it.
Pay once
One price for the design and build. If you'd like me to keep looking after it, there's a small monthly plan that covers hosting and changes.
Spread the cost
One monthly payment that covers the build, the hosting and any changes, with little or nothing to find upfront.
Things people ask
How does the one-page site work?
You send me your words and photos, and I design and build your page within a week. It's £99 to set up and £29 a month, which covers the hosting and up to two small changes a month. If you outgrow it within a year, the £99 comes off the price of a bigger site.
What happens after the first year?
After 12 months the site is yours to do with as you like. Stay with me and I'll carry on hosting it and making your changes for £29 a month. Or ask for the full code and take it wherever you want, at no charge.
Can I update the site myself?
You won't need to. When a price, a menu or a photo changes, send me a message and I'll sort it. It keeps the site quick and tidy, and it's one less thing for you to learn.
Do I have to pay for it all upfront?
No. You can pay for the build in one go and add a small monthly plan to keep it looked after, or spread the whole lot monthly. I'll talk you through both when we chat.
I already have a website. Can you improve it?
Quite often, yes. Improving websites that already exist was my job for seventeen years. I'll have a look and tell you honestly whether yours is worth fixing up or better started again.
Do you only work with businesses near Bishop's Waltham?
Not at all. If you're nearby I'm happy to meet in person, but everything can be done by phone and video call, so it doesn't matter where in the UK you are.
Let's talk about your website
Tell me what the business does and what you wish the website did. I'll tell you what I'd build and what it would cost. The call is free.
